Within this context, your mission in this role is to assume responsibility for the Dutch corporate income tax returns and the Dutch tax position in the consolidated Financial Statement of AkzoNobel. You also support the Tax Manager Dutch Desk in contacts with the Dutch tax authorities and advise management and the business units on AkzoNobel’s fiscal position. As such, this is a position for candidates with a deep understanding of bookkeeping and the energy and attention to detail necessary to fill in complicated tax returns.

Tax Compliance Officer

The role and its responsibilities
This position is based at our offices in Arnhem, the Netherlands, from where your central task is to prepare the declaration of corporation tax of the Dutch fiscal unit and execute all related calculations and compliance activities. 

Thus you determine the Dutch fiscal position in the IFRS financial statements and signal relevant fiscal developments in the reported commercial figures/ financial administration. You also perform country-by-country reporting and assess the (quarterly) reports of Dutch entities from a fiscal point of view regarding correct valuation and processing, drawing up a bridge state between IFRS and tax numbers
In addition you define the tax effects on all relevant items of financial statements and translate these into instructions for accounting staff within the operating companies.

All of this requires you to manage Dutch tax accounting processes internally and with external auditors. In doing so you assess the acute, latent and payable taxes in the Netherlands on the correct processing and interpretation of laws and regulations, explaining this to the Dutch tax authorities. You also analyze the effective tax burden of Dutch entities and segments, and the impact on the total effective tax burden of AkzoNobel.

Finally, you process foreign withholding tax and associated formalities such as residence permits and settlement of Dutch tax credits.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Bachelor education in Tax Law or equivalent;
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience as a Tax Compliance manager, Tax Accountant or similar;
  • The strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with management and a wide range of internal and external parties;
  • Fluent written and spoken Dutch and English.
