Senior Financial Controller

Function
As a Senior Financial Controller you are responsible to provide policies and guidelines to reporting units and analyze and report on (consolidated) financial reporting’s to the Management Board, Supervisory Board, our parent (Aegon N.V.) and external stakeholders, in line with relevant regulations and guidelines, in order to provide meaningful, high-quality management information for management decision making.
As a Senior Financial Controller you evaluate past period(s) and initiate, develop, implement changes in policies (e.g. changes in IFRS standards), guidelines and standards, in order to provide guidance to financial reporting activities. You participate in implementation process of new reporting standards, such as IFRS 9 Financial Instruments and IFRS 17 Insurance accounting.
 
In addition, you support finance departments in their quarterly closing and support them with accounting questions in order to enhance the quality and compliance of financial reporting.
 
About the department

The department Reporting Office is part of the Finance Department FIM/RO of Aegon Nederland N.V. The primary objective of the Reporting Office is to provide the Management Board and Supervisory Board, our parent (Aegon N.V.) and external stakeholders,. with meaningful financial and non-financial information (e.g. capital, income, balance sheet, sales etc.) to support the board’s decision-making process. To help achieve this objective, Reporting Office implements and maintains adequate reporting systems which enables statutory and  consolidated reporting on key financial metrics based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Solvency II, Aegon’s Market Value Numbers.
In this role you will report to the Head of the IFRS reporting Office and you are based in The Hague, The Netherlands. The IFRS reporting team consists of 7 people and works closely with the Solveny II reporting team.

Requirements
As Senior Financial Controller you are a leader on your area of expertise. You have strong people and communication skills.  In addition, you are good at understanding financial departments and other stakeholder’s demands and providing support, persuasion and reasoning.

Moreover, you recognize yourself in the following qualifications:

  • A master degree in finance / accounting plus RA, RC or equivalent;
  • 5 to 10 years relevant working experience (insurance or big 4 firm)
  • Self-motivated, able to take initiative and prioritize towards set objectives
  • Able to build strong relationships with your stakeholders
  • Take ownership of the quality of end-deliverables
  • Strong experience with IFRS reporting, knowledge of Solvency II is a pre
  • Strong written and verbal English language skills.
